The woman damaged her car and injured her driving examiner when her vehicle hit a concrete wall while trying to park during her driving exam Tuesday morning. She didn't pass the test. Driver Examiner Maria L Harrison, 45, of 500 W. State St., reported chest and back pain from the seat belt after the collision, according to the Fremont Police crash report. According to Harrison's supervisor, Lori Kaple, driver license supervisor for District 2 based out of the Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Harrison took herself to the Memorial Hospital of Fremont emergency room and was treated and released. According to reports, the woman was finishing her driving exam at 9:19 a.m. and attempted to park in one of the parking spaces behind the Bureau of Motor Vehicles off of West State Street. As the woman pulled into the parking space, she failed to stop in time and her 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier struck the concrete wall in front of the parking space. There was some damage to the front of her vehicle, but reports state that she was not injured. "Accidents occur, not frequently, but from time to time someone will crash their vehicle during an exam," Kaple said. "When it does happen, it's not always the driver's fault, but in this case it was." Kaple said if someone gets into an accident during their exam, it results in immediate failure. The 70-year-old driver had not been cited by the Fremont Police Department as of early this morning. |
