"Behind the clouds, if heavy with our blood and with our tears, there is that which will restore the sunlight and our grandeur."
-- General Charles De Gaulle, Leader of the Free French Forces
D-Day is a tactical war game that will offer players a different take on the World War II, from actual participants.
All Previews for D-Day
D-Day is a 3D over the top tactical warfare game that will offer players an extremely detailed representation of World War II. The developers interviewed survivors of D-Day to find out what were the significant events and battles of D-Day. For so many years everyone just thinks of the Normandy Beach as the only place a battle took place on D-Day. But there was more than just one battle, and the developers are including these conflicts in the game. So now it’s up to you to win the battles on D-Day.
As mentioned above the developers are trying to represent an accurate portrayal of the battles on D-Day. Besides interviewing survivors of the invasion, they have interviewed other eye witnesses to the battle. They interviewed two sisters who witness the battle on the beach as well. The game will include video interviews from survivors of the battle and also include an introduction before each stage by one of the survivors. The developers even mentioned that the game will contain some rare footage from the invasion that has never been seen before. This should please all military and war game fans.
The game is set in an over the top 3D view, with very detailed graphics. All of the cities and landscapes are presented in a lush, detailed 3D graphics. The graphics were very impressive with destructible cities and locations. You also have the ability to zoom in for a closer view of the battles. Even while zoomed in the graphics were still very clear and detailed.
You’ll have control over all of your men in the battle. Your troops might be spread out in different areas on the stage, and you’ll need to maintain control over them at all times. One interesting feature in the game is the ability to pause the game, and then issue commands to your troops. The developers mentioned that it wasn’t about who can make the fastest decisions, but who can make the best decisions. If the action gets too intense, then simply pause the game and then think about your next move. Should you move your troops to a different area, or move the heavy machinery in for the battle? This is a welcomed feature to the game that should level the playing field for fans of this genre.
The developers also showed off a feature in the game that allows you to view how fast a weapon can reload. Besides just a hit meter, the game shows a reload meter. The reload meter will deplete once the weapon is fired, and before the weapon can be fired again the weapon must be reloaded. So this is where the pause command option could come in very handy for a gamer. If all of the weapons are reloading, then pause the game for a minute and think about the next move. The game will offer a single player and multiplayer modes. The multiplayer mode will offer internet play, with teams of 4 on 4.
The game is currently scheduled for a release later this year but no publisher has been announced at this time. For history fanatics this could be the game that could drag you back into World War II. We usually only see one battle for D-Day but now you can play the other battles. With the research the developers have done with the game, D-Day is shaping up to be a thorough World War II game.
